The department of respiratory medicine and infectious diseases as part of the Thoraxzentrum Ruhrgebiet
(thorax centre in the Ruhr Area).
Since January 2006, the Thoraxzentrum Ruhrgebiet (thorax centre in the Ruhr Area) has been built up as a new centre for health care of patients who suffer from bronchial, pulmonary, pleural, extrapleural and respiration disorders.
In this centre, all diseases of this specific field are treated based on most recent up-to-date knowledge and techniques. Particular expertises include:
- Thoracic oncology - the treatment of
patients suffering from a thoracic tumour
- Respiratory infections - the treatment of
patients suffering from acute and chronic bronchial and pulmonary infections
- Sleep medicine and ventilation - the treatment
of patients suffering from sleep related breathing disorders and chronic respiratory failure
A further focus is the treatment of patients suffering from obstructive pulmonary disorders (bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder "COPD") as well as the treatment of patients suffering from so-called interstitial lung diseases (e.g., sarcoidosis, pulmonary fibrosis).
This full spectrum of care is offered in both locations - in Herne as well as in Bochum. Due to the fact that I am in charge of both locations (Herne and Bochum), consistent treatment standards are guaranteed - as regards internal respiratory medicine as well as the cooperation with the department for thoracic surgery. |
